From India to America...

A FILM based on a novel of the same name by Jhumpa Lahiri comes to the screen tonight at Bahrain Cinema Club.

The Namesake, directed by Mira Nair, was released in the US in 2007 and received positive reviews from American film critics.

Set in Calcutta and New York, The Namesake tells the story of the Ganguli family whose move from India to America evokes a lifelong balancing act of adapting to a new world without forgetting the old.

Although parents Ashoke and Ashima long for the family and culture that enveloped them in India, they take great pride in the opportunities their sacrifices have afforded their children. Paradoxically, their son Gogol is torn between finding his own identity without losing his heritage.

The Namesake will be screened tonight at Bahrain Cinema Club from 7pm. Call 39682323 for more information.
