From Daniel McCash re MP Jean Augustine and Jean Chretien. (Letters to the Editor).

Allow me to make a correction to your item about Jean Augustine MP for Etobicoke-Lakeshore in News in Brief under "United Nations" ("Canada pushes abortion at UN," May 2003, p. 25).

The item mentions that "She was parachuted into the riding by Jean Chretien after a pro-life candidate had been elected to run in the riding."

Actually, she, and other pro-abortion women elsewhere, were appointed to run in ridings just before nomination meetings were scheduled to be held in order that existing pro-life candidates would not win the nominations. This was done under the guise of promoting women candidates but was actually a cover to ensure pro-lifers would not end up in Parliament. The woman appointed in Saskatoon-Humboldt, for example, was actually the wife of an abortionist.

I would have loved to have run against Jean Augustine in our riding and defeated her for the nomination.
