From Daniel McCash re MP Jean Augustine and Jean Chretien. (Letters to the Editor).
Allow me to make a correction to your item about Jean Augustine MP for Etobicoke-Lakeshore in News in Brief under "United Nations" ("Canada pushes abortion at UN," May 2003, p. 25).The item mentions that "She was parachuted into the riding by Jean Chretien after a pro-life candidate had been elected to run in the riding."
Actually, she, and other pro-abortion women elsewhere, were appointed to run in ridings just before nomination meetings were scheduled to be held in order that existing pro-life candidates would not win the nominations. This was done under the guise of promoting women candidates but was actually a cover to ensure pro-lifers would not end up in Parliament. The woman appointed in Saskatoon-Humboldt, for example, was actually the wife of an abortionist.
I would have loved to have run against Jean Augustine in our riding and defeated her for the nomination.
