Caption: Frigid Start: Cold weather could not dissuade 1,670 runners--along with some walkers, dogs and family members--from participating in Minnesota Life's Frozen 5K and shortened Half Marathon on Jan. 31 in downtown St. Paul. At race time, the temperature was 4 with a wind chill of 7 below zero. Due to this year's unusual cold, Minnesota Life reduced the normal half-marathon distance to 6.6 miles. This was the ninth year the company has sponsored the race, which is part of the annual St. Paul Winter Carnival.
