Friends to protect home of Hedd Wyn.

RAISING the profile of an iconic Snowdonian farmhouse will be one aim of a new support group to be launched next week.

Friends of Yr Ysgwrn will work alongside the Snowdonia National Park Authority (SNPA) to raise the profile of the farmhouse as a record of agricultural life and Welsh culture at the turn of the 20th century and commemorate the life of Hedd Wyn.

The SNPA bought Yr Ysgwrn, the family farm of the famous poet and First World War soldier, earlier this year Park Authority chief executive Aneurin Phillips said: "The establishment of the Friends of Yr Ysgwrn group is an integral aspect of the site's development.

Aneurin Phillips "It's important we continue to raise awareness and promote Yr Ysgwrn as a site of cultural and historical importance.

"We invite all those with an interest in contributing to the future developments at the site to attend this meeting and be given the opportunity to be one of the founding Friends of Yr Ysgwrn."

The event, to be hosted by Gerallt Pennant, will be held at Capel Bach, Trawsfynydd on July 2 at 7pm and refreshments will be provided.
