FreshDirect's deliveries stumble amid move, increased competition, WSJ reports.
FreshDirect says it's still addressing stockouts and botched deliveries since its move into a new New York distribution center, and customers' frustration with the online grocery company has pushed them to try out rival services like Amazon's AmazonFresh online grocery delivery unit, The Wall Street Journal reports. The transition to the new facility "has not been as smooth as we planned," FreshDirect co-founder and CEO David McInerney told customers in an email on Friday. FreshDirect is also facing new competition from big companies like Walmart (WMT), Kroger (KR) and Ahold Delhaize's (ADRNY) Peapod unit, which are investing millions to build out grocery ecommerce operations.
