Fresh abductions in Nigeria reveal government ineptitude.

The abduction of 20 women in northern Nigeria, close to the town from where about 276 schoolgirls were kidnapped in April this year, once again highlights the remorseless agenda of the terrorist group Boko Haram. The organisation seems to have acquired an aura of invincibility -- thanks to the shocking ineptitude of the Nigerian government. Coming in the wake of the still unresolved issue of the kidnapped girls -- a particularly damning indictment of the lack of will by the international community to find a solution to Nigeria's nemesis -- this latest incident sends a chilling message of hopelessness to the women and girls of Nigeria's north-east.

The ineffectiveness of the Nigerian army and government in tackling Boko Haram finds its measure in the fact that despite a state of emergency being in place for more than a year in the north-east, the violence and abductions continue unabated. Let us hope the ministerial meeting in London tomorrow -- on the sidelines of the World Summit on Ending Sexual Violence in Conflict -- to tackle the Boko Haram menace, will go beyond rhetoric and lead to real results.
