French connection just champion for COB trio; gymnastics.

A FOUR-YEAR cross-channel friendship supporting the development of French gymnastics club EVB Bellgarde bore fruit as three City of Birmingham gymnasts helped them into championship-winning place at the finals of the French Team Championships in Oyannax, eastern France. The high-scoring trio of Joe Fraser, Dominick Cunningham and Donell Osbourne put on an impressive display of British gymnastics of the highest order to aid their team-mates' performances and help them claim first position at the top of the Second Division with a score of 320,100pts, ahead of second-placed Convention Gymnique de Lyon on 312,250 points and Yutz, in third, with 300,700 points.
Twelve teams fought hard to either avoid relegation or achieve ascension into top-three positions of the championship and an automatic place in the First Division and EVB Bellgarde did it in first-class style.
EVB Bellgarde truly benefitted from the top form of City of Birmingham seniors Joe and Dominick, respective British Championship gold and silver medallists, as well as from Under-18s British Championships silver medallist Donell.
Their collective performances brought focus and sometimes hush from the knowledgeable audience at each of their apparatus touches.
City of Birmingham head men's artistic gymnastics coach, Lee Woolls, joined the team on the competition floor.
He said: "The lads' routines had some additional changes that came off as expected and I was additionally pleased they did exactly what I expected of them, a professional job with a great representation of the standard of gymnastics in Birmingham."
