TELECOMWORLDWIRE-28 May 2004-Freedom Communications provides voice network to UK local authority(C)1994-2004 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

Telecomms integrator and consultancy Freedom Communications is to supply a voice network for Trafford Metropolitan Borough Council, a UK local authority.

Under the contract Freedom will install and maintain eight Alcatel OmniPCX Enterprise systems at the council's eight core sites across the region.

The system will provide IP and TDM voice services - including unified messaging, voicemail, fax, e-mail and web conferencing functionality - across some 2,000 extensions in Phase I, according to the company.

Phase II of the project will include the networking of remote sites such as schools and libraries.

The implementation will help Trafford Metropolitan Borough Council meet e-Government targets for 2005 and cut its telecomms costs. The contract has been valued at over GBP900,000.
