Free peek at credit ratings.

Consumers are to be given free access to their credit report once a year, it was announced this week.

Online credit reporting firm Credit Reporting Agency said the move should make people more aware of the information held about them and should help reduce errors.

A new website,, is being launched on June 2 giving consumers free annual online access to credit report information held at their current and previous address.

Barry Stamp, joint managing director of Credit Reporting Agency, said: "Since 1975 everyone has had a statutory right to see what others hold about them, but this was based on last century technology and involved sending pounds 2 by post to a credit agency and getting a paper printout in return within 7 working days.

"It's important that everyone can have regular and easy access to credit report information"
