Free Workshops to Help Enterprise IT Developers Quickly Develop -- Then Deploy and Manage -- Java Applications.

BURLINGTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 13, 1998--Novera Software Inc., Symantec Corp. (NASDAQ:SYMC) and Alta Software Inc. today announced their Java Enterprise Development Series: free, hands-on workshops for developers who want to learn to rapidly build and deploy large-scale, distributed applications using true enterprise-scale Java tools.

Workshop attendees will learn by participating in the development of a live Java enterprise application, using products and services developed by Novera, Symantec and Alta Software. Working together, these products and services provide a single system image for rapid Java development; distributed debugging; fast, scaleable deployment; and user, client and server application management.

"Symantec's Visual Cafe for Java and Novera's jBusiness, combined with Alta's expertise in systems integration, together form the first real ERAD (Enterprise Rapid Application Development) solution," explains David Butler, vice president of marketing for Novera. "This will truly enable developers to create enterprise applications quickly, or as we say, at the 'speed of business.'"

Alta Software Vice President of Sales Joe Rymsza said, "As the premier provider of enterprise, Java-based systems integration services in the US, Alta Software is excited about working with Novera and Symantec to educate software engineers about rapid application development."

Specific topics covered in the workshops include ERAD, server-side Java, visual programming, object, user and application management, CORBA integration, remote debugging, Enterprise JavaBeans(tm), and business objects.

Drawings will be held at each workshop to give away two copies of Symantec's Visual Cafe for Java Development Environment, and two copies of Novera's Component Development Environment.

The workshops will begin Oct. 19 in San Jose at the SIGs for Java Conference and continue through the fall in the following cities:

Dallas, November 3 San Francisco, November 5 Chicago, November 10 Boston, November 12 New York, November 16 Washington DC, November 17 Atlanta, November 19
