Frederick W. Blackwell, 82.

OXFORD Frederick W. Blackwell, 82, died Sunday, March 28, 2010, at Venice Regional Medical Center in Venice, FL, after a short illness. He was predeceased by his first wife, Jean P. (Leonard) Blackwell, who died in 1991; and his second wife, Evangeline A. (McHugh) Blackwell, who died in 2002.

He is survived by five children, Sheila J. Gove of Brimfield, Kenneth H. Copeland of Rochester, William M. Blackwell of Oxford, Donna M. Baxter of Wareham, and Brenda L. Bukowski of Palmer; four step children, Patricia M. Randall of Arlington, Catherine E. Gortze of Hyde Park, Sean B. Randall of Sagamore Beach, and Gregory W. Freitag of Lakeville; nine grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by a sister, Marjorie; and two brothers, George and Howard.

He was born in East Bridgewater, the son of the late George W. and Bessie (Chamberlain) Blackwell, and lived in East Bridgewater and Oxford before moving to Port Charlotte, FL, 17 years ago. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Mr. Blackwell was a superintendent at L. Farber Co. in Worcester for 17 years, retiring in 1992. Previously, he worked at Wind Innersole in Brockton for 26 years. He was a member and past president of the East Bridgewater Commercial Club. He enjoyed traveling, woodworking, gardening, and especially loved growing roses.

A funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, April 17, 2010, at Paradis Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford. Burial will follow at North Cemetery, Oxford. Calling hours will be held from 10 a.m.-12 noon on Saturday, prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
