Fraser's a scuba hero now.

Byline: MAUREEN CULLEY

A DISABLED Scots scuba diver is helping Superman star Christopher Reeve's doctors rehabilitate paralysed patients.

Fraser Bathgate - the world's first disabled diving instructor - jetted out to the US last year to meet the stricken actor's physicians.

Now the team have incorporated scuba diving into their therapy programmes.

Paralysed from the neck down in a 1995 horse riding accident, Reeve's treatment is organised by Washington University's Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation centre in St Louis, Missouri.

Fraser, 40, from Edinburgh, was paralysed in a climbing accident 17 years ago.

He said: "The reaction you can get underwater is amazing. I have witnessed movement in limbs that hasn't even been seen with hydro-therapy.

"I suppose it's like going back to the womb. The body relaxes and anything seems possible."
