Frankel brother among Derby entries for 2016.
Byline: Andrew Dietz
A BROTHER to Frankel has been quoted at 66-1 by Betfred for the 2016 Investec Derby after appearing in the highest number of yearling entries for the Classic in four years.
The colt, by 2001 Epsom hero Galileo out of Kind, was the eyecatcher among 16 entries for Khalid Abdullah, the three-time Derby-winning owner who also has another son of six-time Group 1 winner Midday among a bumper 475 yearlings, which is 66 up on last year.
Frankel, the highest-rated horse in the modern era, never got the opportunity to write his name into Derby folklore during his prodigious career but in 12 months his yearlings are bound to be a significant presence in the entry for 2017.
The Coolmore axis of Sue Magnier, Michael Tabor and Derrick Smith have landed the last four runnings of the Derby and are well represented for the 2016 race, which will be worth at least PS1.325 million.
They have 77 yearling entries between them, headed by the Galileo half-brother to 2010 King George winner Harbinger, who topped this year's Book 1 of the Tattersalls Yearling Sales at 2.6 million guineas.
Godolphin have 53 entries, the most of any single owner, including a Dubawi half-brother to this year's Derby hero Australia.
There are two other entry stages with the first on April 5, 2016 costing PS8,000. The second, on May 30, is just five days before the race when horses can be supplemented for PS75,000.
