France : CNES and the Directorate General for Health sign a cooperation agreement on the theme of tele-epidemiology.

Jean-Yves Le Gall, Chairman of the Center National d'Etudes Spatiales (CNES) and Jerome Solomon, Director General of Health (DGS) signed on Thursday 1 st February 2018, a cooperation agreement on spatial dynamics modeling study mosquito populations of the genus Aedes, vectors of infectious diseases such as dengue. This agreement is part of the framework convention CNES / DGS / SSA (Department of Health of the Armed Forces) signed on October 14, 2016 and on the contribution of space to the national strategy of e-health 2020.

CNES supports the government's national e-health 2020 strategy, implemented by the General Directorate of Health and the Army Health Service through its capacity for innovation, preparation of new technologies and uses space means. As such, the CNES, the DGS and the SSA signed, on October 14, 2016, at the headquarters of CNES, a framework convention of cooperation relating to the contribution of the space to the implementation of the national strategy of e health 2020.

The DGS supports, for a period of 12 months, the French research organization, CIRAD, for the realization of a study on the development of a predictive mapping tool of population densities of mosquitoes of the genus Aedes, vectors arboviruses (such as dengue, chikungunya or Zika). The final objective is to obtain an information product on a spatial scale adapted to the organization of the surveillance and control actions carried out by the actors of the vector control, in various French departments from the meteorological data of Mto France and remote sensing with high and very high spatial resolution.

Because of its expertise in the use of space techniques to respond to societal issues, particularly in the areas of environmental management, climate change, risk prevention and crisis management, but also CNES is assisting the DGS in the follow-up of this research and development study by providing its expertise in the field of tele-epidemiology.
