France,India,Norway : TELENOR GROUP hired services from ALCATEL-LUCENT to manage operations in INDIA.

The French firm - Alcatel-Lucent has won a five-year outsourcing deal from Telenor Group of Norway for the supervision of three GSM networks in India s western and southern parts.

The Norwegian entity has remained tightlipped on the financial terms of the contract.

Telenor operates in the Indian telecom space under the brand name of 'Uninor.'

According to the media statement of the Norwegian mobile operator, Alcatel-Lucent will provide managed services to Telewings Communications Pvt Ltd, a 100% arm of Telenor Group, throughout three circles in Gujarat, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh. These three circles have more than 257 million people.

In last November, Telenor secured spectrum in six circles via Telewings and these circles are Gujarat, Bihar, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh (both east & west) plus Andhra Pradesh.

The Paris-headquartered Alcatel-Lucent will enhance and renovate existing networks of Telewings via deployment of network performance paraphernalia and know-how in line with the set norms.

Alcatel-Lucent s President (Asia Pacific) - Rajeev Singh-Molares stated, ''India is a competitive market when it comes to Average Rate per User (ARPU). Service providers such as Telenor in India are focused on enhancing network operations efficiency and in turn end consumer user experience. Telenor understands this and is therefore bringing in Alcatel-Lucent's world class expertise to help them address it.''

The Executive Vice President Group Industrials Development Telenor Group - Hilde Tonne opined, ''Telenor Group appreciates this partnership done with Alcatel-Lucent in India. This establishes a platform for further innovative operating models in India and for taking those learnings and practices in other markets across the Group.''

With this, Telewing will be able to present superior services, while delivery of expertise on network and business structure by Alcatel-Lucent s research arm - Bell Labs.
