Byline: BUZZWORTHY by The Register-Guard

Oh say can you see?

Ah yes, it's Independence Day again. With the holiday falling on Monday this year, it could make for one long, glorious weekend. Fortunately for the denizens of Lane County, there is plenty to keep us occupied.

Art and the Vineyard in Eugene, Light of Liberty in Springfield, Red White and Blues in Corvallis, community events in Dexter, Coos Bay, Newport, Yachats and elsewhere. The entertainment options are extensive.

Trust the Oregon Bach Festival organizers to kick off the holiday weekend with a performance from one of the event's many big guns.

The Kronos Quartet, one of the best known and most eclectic chamber ensembles in classical music, will perform world music with Latin flavor tonight at the Hult Center. Kronos is `respected as one of the most charismatic and innovative ensembles performing today,' the allmusic.com Web site says. Here's your chance to see for yourself.

Also on the agenda today is Eugene's First Friday Art Walk in downtown. The tour begins at the McDonald Theatre and makes its way to the Downtown Athletic Club, Eugene Hotel, Goldworks Jewelry, Park Place building and Jacobs Gallery.

In conjunction with the walk is ArtFest, a collection of artist booths lining Broadway in downtown.

In the mood for something a little different? Or something that appeals to your feline nature? Check out the Sassy Katz Cat Show on Saturday and Sunday at the Lane Events Center. Meow!

On Monday night, the long holiday weekend officially will come to a close with a barrage of fireworks shot up from many locations - Eugene, Springfield, Florence, Dexter, Yachats, Coos Bay, Newport, Corvallis and others.

And by then, you just may need an extra day to recover from a busy holiday.
