Four years' jail for violent child abuser; WOMAN USED SEX TOYS AND MOLESTED LITTLE GIRLS.

A VIOLENT woman who used sex toys in front of two young girls and sexually abused them was jailed for four years.

Emma Kent, 29, of no fixed abode, molested the children and made them watch her using vibrators at an address in New Brighton.

And it was revealed Kent is already serving a six-year prison sentence for slashing a woman's throat with a knife.

She admitted wounding with intent last year after leaving her terrified victim fearing she was going to die.

Judge Brian Cummings, QC, said Kent's past convictions showed "a theme of violence" and she would now serve the equivalent of a 10-year sentence.

Kent stood trial alongside her girlfriend Jacqueline Horton, 47, of Albury Road in Southdene, Kirkby, who was cleared of any wrongdoing.

But Kent was found guilty of three counts of sexual assault and four counts of engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child.

Martine Snowdon, prosecuting, said the younger girl said Kent exposed her "private parts" to them and warned her not to tell anyone, because "it's our secret".

When arrested by police, Kent denied that anything sexual ever took place.

The offences came to light when the children confided in an adult, who contacted the police. Kent claimed the children were lying and were put up to making false accusations by this adult.

The younger victim, who suffered psychological harm, has been sectioned. The older victim endured nightmares and flashbacks and felt like she wanted to die.

She told the court: "The pain won't leave, the scars won't fade and the memories will never vanish or disappear."

Kent was convicted 21 times between the ages of 18 and 23 of multiple assaults, arson, possessing weapons and public order offences.

Gareth Bellis, defending, said his client had a very difficult life and was molested by her stepdad, who was jailed for 10 years for the abuse.

Kent appeared via video link from Prestwich Hospital in Bury, where she was moved to from prison last year because of concerns of her "life-threatening" self-harm. She had to be isolated from other patients because of threats she made, but was now said to be responding well to treatment.

Judge Cummings said Kent, who continues to deny the sexual offences, had mental health problems and abused alcohol and drugs.

The judge said: "You suffered a difficult and disruptive childhood and upbringing, which included you being sexually abused by your stepfather over a number of years, conduct for which he is himself serving a lengthy prison sentence.

"You have a tendency to blame your mental health concerns rather than accept responsibility for your behaviour."

Kent held her face in her hands as the judge told her to sign on the Sex Offenders Register for life.
