Four new periodicals from Assoc. for Computing Machinery.

The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM; New York) began the publication of a new print title in October and will launch three additional titles, two in print and one online, beginning in January, 2004. All four will be produced quarterly.

Computers in Entertainment was launched with an October issue and covers a wide range of theoretical and practical computer applications in the field of entertainment, including online games, CD-ROM software, CGI movies, interactive TV, virtual reality and animatronics. Editorial includes information on such topics as education, the merger of VR and live performances, music composition, entertainment robots, and expansion of interactive TV. An annual subscription costs $50 for non-ACM members.

Transactions on Applied Perception will "aim to bridge the gap between perception and computer science," ACM said, including the disciplines of graphics, vision, acoustics and haptics (human-machine interaction through touch). Editorial will include information on applications and research into perceptual aspects of sensory integration. Transactions on Architecture and Code Optimization will be targeted to architects, hardware and software developers and computer designers and will focus and hardware, software and systems research in the fields of computer architecture and code optimization. Content will include information on new techniques, concepts and experiences with actual systems.

Transactions on Speech and Language is an electronic Journal that will focus on the design, development and evaluation of speech--and text-processing systems. Editorial will include research, survey papers, and descriptions of new applications. Subscription prices for the latter three titles have yet to be determined.
