BEIRUT: Mount Lebanon's First Investigative Judge Nicolas Mansour Tuesday issued indictments against high-ranking security personnel on charges of bribery, abuse of power and fraud, a judicial source told The Daily Star. Members of the Internal Security Forces Col. Aa.Gh., 1st Adjutant T.H., 1st Sgt. Maj. M.S. and 1st Sgt. Maj. A.M. were indicted for allegedly accepting bribes, carrying out acts "incompatible" with their duties, abusing military power and forming "a gang" that committed fraud against a number of Lebanese and foreign victims and hid "under-the-table" deals. Four civilians were also indicted for their alleged involvement. They were identified as Aa. D., M.S., H.A.H. and Aa. A.

The ruling comes as part of a wider investigation into corruption within Lebanon's security apparatus. In February, Mansour began interrogations of 15 members of the ISF, including the four indicted Tuesday, in a wider legal file related to charges including bribery, prostitution and defying instructions from the agency.

A source close to the ISF told The Daily Star at the time that the officers' arrests were part of "exceptional efforts that the agency has been exerting" to combat corruption.
