LATEST research by the Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths reveals some new parents were not made aware of how to reduce therisk of cot deaths. In fact, nearly a third of those taking part in an FSID poll said cutting the risk of cot death, which claims the lives of more than 300 babies a year in the UK, was not discussed by their midwife.

FSID director Joyce Epstein said: "We must ensure that everybody gets the right advice at the right time."
