Fougera rounds out metronidazole line with 0.75% topical gel.
MELVILLE, N.Y. -- Fougera says it has become the first to market a generic metronidazole topical gel USP 0.75%. The specialty pharmaceuticals manufacturer is a division of Altana Inc.
With the rollout of the gel, Fougera has also become the first company to offer a complete range of generic metronidazole products, which it also markets in cream and lotion forms, also at 0.75% strength.
The company notes that the offerings facilitate an easy transition to the most cost-effective generic products for existing patients and provide an attractive option for new patients.
The new gel from Fougera is indicated for the treatment of rosacea. It is available in 45-gram tubes.
Company officials point out that approval of the gel continues Fougera's record of achieving more topical Food and Drug Administration approvals than any other generic pharmaceutical company in the last six years and that the continuing stream of new products benefits both health care providers and patients seeking multisource alternatives and reduced costs.
"First-to-market metronidazole gel, an important addition to Fougera's line of facial products, joins our metronidazole cream and metronidazole lotion to give health care providers the ability to choose the topical formulation that's right for their patients," points out David Klaum, senior vice president of commercial business operations.
"At Fougera our focus is always on providing our customers with the quality generic products they demand in the formulations that suit their needs."
