Forthcoming talk on cosmetic surgery; ADVERTISING FEATURE SPIRE ELLAND HOSPITAL.

ONE of the North of England's leading plastic surgeons Ivan Foo is to give a presentation at a Brighouse hotel in October. Anyone interested in cosmetic surgery is welcome to come along to the event on Thursday October 11 at 7pm at The Holiday Inn, Brighouse. Mr Foo will present all the facts about cosmetic surgery and there will be ample time for questions and answers. Mr Foo, who works across West Yorkshire but is based in the Springfield Suite at the Spire Elland Hospital, is very keen to cover the whole process of cosmetic surgery from start to finish.

He says: "Anyone deciding to go ahead with cosmetic surgery will find themselves on a journey as they go through the process and they need to be aware of many things including the recovery time, after care etc. They must weigh up all the benefits and all the risks before making a final decision.'' Although the majority of cosmetic surgery is taken up by women, between five and 10% of patients are men.

The number of people opting for surgery is on the increase year after year. Figures from 2010 to 2011 show increases across all areas of cosmetic surgery including breast augmentation and reduction, eyelid surgery, facelifts, nose refinement, tummy tucks and liposuction.

Following the recent problem concerning PIP breast implants in 2011, the Government has revisited the safety and legitimacy of cosmetic surgery providers.

Mr Foo said: "In light of this debacle, it is important to look at the safety of cosmetic procedures. Good advice is available from the Department of Health's website.'' During an initial consultation with a patient, Mr Foo will explain all aspects of surgery. "For many patients, cosmetic surgery is about increasing self-confidence. Although there is sometimes an aspect of vanity involved, the majority of people want it to enhance or restore their self-confidence.

"It is important for patients to make a fully informed decision and be aware of the need for full aftercare and recovery time,'' he said. He said: "Cosmetic surgery is not to be taken lightly and patients need to have the full picture. Some patients choose to go abroad for surgery because of the cost but must be aware of long term after care when they arrive home.'' Mr Foo has been a consultant plastic surgeon since 1993 and is highly regarded within the industry. Mr Foo is a member of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) and the British Association of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS).

He works for Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Trust, Bradford Royal Infirmary and also works in private practice.

His work involves both reconstruction work and also aesthetic cosmetic procedures. To make an appointment with him, contact Spire Elland Hospital on 0800 0966 238.
