Former lawmaker running network of sectarian killers.

KARACHI -- A group of sectarian killers run by a former national assembly member from Karachi is behind the killing of senior journalist, Aftab Alam, and dozens of other people of Deobandi school of thought, a senior police official revealed here on Wednesday.

On last Sunday police arrested mastermind behind killing of senior journalist, Aftab Alam, who was targeted outside his residence in 11-C area of North Karachi four days earlier.

According to reports mobile phones and arms were also recovered from the possession of the suspects who had been trained in the neighboring country, which the police officer confirmed was the neighboring Islamic country. According to police the hit-man was also involved in others cases wherein people belonging to Deoband school of thoughts were targeted. The killer arrested by police, has disclosed that he had got his training from the neighboring country, Iran and was working in the network of Raza Imam alias Manzar who would receive direct instructions from a senior leader of a Karachi based political party an official of Karachi police, who wished to remain anonymous, told this scribe.

Raza Imam Alias Manzar s/o of Jafar Ali Naqvi, age 35, has a bounty of Rs one million over his head. According to Redbook of the Sindh police the resident of Ancholi Karachi, Imam, is associated with Sipah-e-Muhammad who after hitting the targets would move immediately to the neighboring country Iran.

The terrorist has also remained employee in the PAF Masroor and was booked under FIR no 11/2001 and 354/97, in which he has already been sentenced in absentia to death but could never be nabbed.

The former deputy parliamentary leader of a political click in the National Assembly of Pakistan and one of its senior members is running the network of sectarian killers, which is commanded in field by Raza Imam, Zeeshan has disclosed before the investigators, another source told The Frontier Post.

According to the official it is still to be ascertained whether the former lawmaker was running the killers network by his own or he was enjoying the support and blessing of senior party leadership in London.

Most of the killers associated with this group are also part of the Sipah-e-Muhammad and keep association with banned sectarian outfit and militant wing of the political party at the same time the official informed.

Regarding Wasi Haider, a former sector in-charge of a political party arrested for killing leading religious scholars, the official said Haider was working with another group, also including target killer Tabish, who has killed Mufti Nizamuddin Shamzai, Mufti Mohammad Abdul Majeed Deenpuri, Hafiz Mohammad Ahsan, Mufti Saleh Mohammad Qazi and others.

Interestingly a third group inside the political party and run by a lawmaker from another sect is killing the people of Shia school of thoughts, police informed, adding most of the killing seemed aimed to igniting sectarian violence.

Its pertinent to mention that soon after the arrest of Wasi Haiderm Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) had called in an emergency meeting of its London and Karachi Rabita Committee, which decided to probe the allegations of involvement of its workers and ranks in the sectarian killings.
