Former educationist to contest in NC elections from Samtse.
An educationist by profession, Dhan Kumar Ghalley, 51, is one of the aspiring candidates who will be contesting in the National Council election next year from Samtse. Hailing from Chusilgang village under Pemaling gewog in Samtse, Dhan Kumar Ghalley believes that the time has arrived to look back at the village and serve the people of his dzongkhag. As an educationist with 28 years of experience: a teacher and school principal, he said he has witnessed the problems of people from different walks of life. 'My experience as a teacher would also help me in serving different communities as I have worked in different communities. I want to use my past experiences which has become a source of inspiration for me to contest. I have seen the hardships faced by the people of remote communities and I am ever willing to help such communities,' he added. Apart from working as a teacher, Dhan Kumar Ghalley also worked as the Officiating Dzongkhag Education Officer in Trongsa and Wangduephodrang. He also served as the principal of Deki School, a private school in the capital, since 2014 till November this year. If elected, Dhan Kumar Ghalley said he has plans to serve the people in Former educationist to contest in NC elections from Samtse Samtse with equity and justice. 'I want to bring necessary changes in the lives of people in the dzongkhag by providing equal and just services under my capability. 'I cannot promise to bring smiles to all the people, but I assure to serve with utmost humility up to my capacity,' he said. 'I would also like to uproot corruption which is gradually slackening the development of the nation. We can collectively tackle that,' he added. Dhan Kumar Ghalley also plans to bring balanced developments across the dzongkhag and assures that issues like poverty, inequity, unemployment and youth issues are addressed along with other national issues. 'People are positive and I hope that they will make a good decision without selling their precious gift to vote from the Golden Throne,' he said.
The former educationist also believes that he can spread the philosophy of Gross National Happiness and bring real happiness to the people of Samtse if elected. He also assured that practical laws are framed wisely for the people of the country promoting GNH. Meanwhile, he also said that the other aspiring candidates are equally competent with best capabilities. 'It will be hard but people are wise enough to make the right decision,' he said. Dhan Kumar Ghalley has toured half of his dzongkhag and is still campaigning in the remaining villages. He had also contested in the 2008 elections along with five other candidates, but lost to the incumbent Samtse MP, Sangay Khandu. Dhan Kumar Ghalley holds a Master's degree in education from Acharya Nagarjuna University in Andhra Pradesh, India.
