Former Susquehanna SVP Engineering Charlie Morgan Dies.

Charlie Morgan, former SVP of Engineering for the former Susquehanna Radio, passed away over the weekend; He was 82.

Morgan chaired the standards-setting body, the National Radio Systems Committee, for more than 20 years. During that time, the NRSC developed a series of AM broadcast standards to improve AM radio quality, RBD, used to display song title and artist on receivers, and what issued to be called In-Band, On Channel Broadcasting, now branded as HD Radio.

He stepped down as chair in 2009 and remained active on NRSC committees.

Morgan received numerous awards in his career, including the NAB Radio Engineering Achievement Award in 1993. He was a charter member of the Society of Broadcast Engineers and former member of the National Association of Broadcast Engineering Advisory Committee, where he served as the chairman of its AM Improvement Committee.

Early in his career, Morgan was chief engineer of WARM Radio owned by parent Susquehanna and rose through the ranks to retire as SVP Engineering for the York, PA-based company.

Morgan also founded and operated WTLQ(FM), Pittston, Pennsylvania, outside Scranton.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Genevieve, according to an obituary on Legacy.com. He's survived by three children and four grandchildren.

Former Regional Engineering Manager for Susquehanna Radio Max Turner tells RBR+TVBR that Morgan passed away from esophageal cancer.

Funeral services are planned for Wednesday at 10am from Paul Leonard Funeral home, 575 N. Main St., Pittston, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Eucharist Parish, Pittston.

The family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in memory of Charlie to the Care and Concern Food Pantry, 35 William St., Pittston, PA 18640.

RBR+TVBR observation: Charlie was always generous with his time in explaining things to me. I will miss him.
