Former Scots rugby star faces trial on rape charge.

A FORMER Scotland rugby international will stand trial accused of rape next month.

Norman Pender, from Hawick, Roxburghshire, has been charged with raping a girl several times between 1990 and 1997 in the town.

His alleged victim was aged between 12 and 19.

He also faces charges of indecent assault and lewd and libidinous practices. He has

previously pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

Pender, 65, was capped four times for Scotland in the late 1970s and played his club rugby for Hawick.

He also served as a Lib Dem councillor on Scottish Borders Council between 1998 and 2003.

The trial, which is scheduled to start on December 13 at the High court in Glasgow, is expected to last around four days.
