Former Oregon Governor Kitzhaber to Keynote Oregon Economic Forum Oct. 11; Third Annual Forum to Focus on Health Care Economics.

EUGENE, Ore. -- Former Oregon Governor John Kitzhaber will be the keynote speaker for the third annual Oregon Economic Forum, to take place Oct. 11 at the Oregon Zoo, Portland.

The forum will focus on the growing problem of health care finances and the burden being placed on the competitiveness of Oregon private employers. Kitzhaber, also a physician, is known for his efforts to reform Oregon's Medicaid program in the early 1990s. He will describe a model for national health reform that he has been leading in Oregon.

The forum also will feature a panel chaired by Jack Friedman, CEO of Providence Health, that will react to Kitzhaber's remarks and then discuss different approaches to better managing health care economics in Oregon and the nation. Tim Duy, the forum's director, author of the monthly University of Oregon Economic Index, an adjunct professor of economics at the University of Oregon, also will speak on Oregon economic trends.

The mission of the Oregon Economic Forum is to bring university, business and government leaders together to discuss relevant economic issues in an unbiased format.

Cost of the seminar is $50 per person and $375 for a table of eight. The registration deadline is Oct. 3. Contact Tim Duy at duy@uoregon.edu or 541-346-4660 for registration information.
