Former Bears star signs up for Wasps; SPEEDWAY.
FORMER Redcar Bears favourite Chris Kerr has joined the reborn Newport Wasps.
The American World Cup star has spent the past three seasons on loan from Wolves at South Tees Motorsports Park, where he was a big hit with supporters.
It was always his aim to ride for his parent club in the Elite League next year, although he left for the States in October with the intention of doubling up with a Premier League club too.
Now he has agreed terms with Newport who will return to action next year after withdrawing from the PL last summer following the tragic death of promoter Tim Stone.
James Holder and Jordan Frampton were unveiled as Wasps signings earlier in the week.
Kerr will have an early chance to try and put one over his old club too, with the Bears having been drawn against Newport in the first round of the Premier League KO Cup.
Robbie Kessler, Benji Compton, Carl Stonehewer and Ben Wilson have so far signed for the Bears, with Rider of the Year Ty Proctor and skipper Garry Havelock currently in talks about coming back in 2009.
Meanwhile last week's fund-raiser at Riley's snooker club in Stockton raised almost pounds 900 for club funds.
The evening featured a knockout pool tournament - featuring manager and new promoter Brian Havelock among others - and an auction of speedway memorabilia.
Now organisers, the Redcar Supporters' Fund, are hoping to organise further events with a darts competition currently being considered.
