SHAMIYRA, a half-sister to Group 3 winner Shemiyla, topped the second session of Arqana's December Breeding Stock Sale yesterday when fetching €190,000 from Gilles Forien.
Offered from the Aga Khan Studs, the unraced five-year-old daughter of Medicean was sold in foal to Kendargent having given birth to a colt foal by Dalakhani this year. Further back her pedigree also features Group 2 winner Shimraan and talented filly Shemima.
"She's from a great family and we have bought her for our broodmare band at Haras de la Reboursiere et Montaigu," Aliette Forien said. "We need to keep investing in young mares and she has a good covering, so fitted the bill."
Richard Brown, of Blandford Bloodstock, also raided the Aga Khan draft, going to €165,000 for dual-winning three-year-old Brynica.
Bought on behalf of James Egan's Corduff Stud, the daughter of Desert Style is a half-sister to 2011 Prix du Jockey Club third and Group 3 Prix La Force winner Baraan.
"We bought her half-brother by Invincible Spirit for 215,000gns at the Tattersalls December Foal Sales last year," Brown said. "We resold him as a yearling in October for 680,000gns, so James was very keen to buy this mare.
"She has been bought with a view to selling her produce, so hopefully she can be as successful."
Regally-bred mare Fraloga made it a clean sweep of the top three lots for the Aga Khan when purchased by Peter Kelly of Emerald Bloodstock on behalf of an undisclosed client in Ireland for €125,000.
A daughter of Grand Lodge, the 12-year-old mare was runner-up in two Group 2 races as well as finishing third in the Group 1 Prix Marcel Boussac. She was offered in foal to Intello.
"She's from a fantastic family and we are delighted to have her," Kelly said of the half-sister to Group 1 winners Alpine Rose and Fragrant Mix as well as stakes winners Fracassant, Fascinating Mix and Farfala.
Fraloga is responsible for six foals, including the Listed-placed runner Fariman. Her two-year-old by Pivotal, named Feyzabad, finished second on his debut for his breeder and Alain de Royer-Dupre on his debut last month.
Sheikh Abdullah bin Khalifa Al Thani's Umm Qarn Farm was underbidder on the top lot, but struck three lots earlier when going to €110,000 for a Motivator filly.
Consigned by Haras de la Cour Blanche, the March-born filly is out of the Anabaa mare Savoya and is a half-sister to breeder Jacques Rossi's two-time winner Savoken, third in the Listed La Coupe de Marseille on his latest start in September.
"She represents the same cross as Treve," said Alban de Mieulle. "She is also from a Haras du Quesnay family, that of Silver Pond and Lacarolina, so we thought it was an interesting purchase as we liked her a lot. She will go into training with Freddy Head."
The sale continues today at 11am (local time).
