Foreign Minister meets UN High Commissioner.

Geneva-Jan16(BNA) The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, conveyed the greetings and good wishes of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, to the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Ms. Navi Pillay.

The Foreign Minister expressed Bahrain's sincere desire in enhancing cooperation with the United Nations and its bodies specialized in human rights work; in particular the High Commissioner for Human Rights for their work on the protection and promotion of human rights.

He welcomed the agreement that has been reached on the terms of reference for technical cooperation and capacity building between the Kingdom Bahrain and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights.

In the same context, Ms. Pillay stressed the commitment of the Commission to provide technical assistance and promote constructive communication channels to discuss ways to develop cooperation in the field of human rights in Bahrain.

The Foreign Minister updated the High Commissioner on the latest developments in human rights and the political situation in Bahrain, the latest of which was the meeting of his Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Premier, with the parties involved in the national dialogue.

This comes to implement the directives of His Majesty the King to continue to this dialogue and remove any challenges it may face, recognizing the importance of the national dialogue in bringing different perspectives together and meeting the aspirations of all Bahrainis.

The Foreign Minister informed the High Commissioner on this new phase of the national dialogue which will be marked by seriousness, credibility and responsibility that puts the national interest above all else.

The High Commissioner commended His Majesty the King's directives to hold meetings with various political parties, expressing her support for these positive steps that contribute to reaching national consensus and achieving the aspirations of the Bahraini people. (moa).
