Foreign Minister attends Rotary International Conference.

Manama, Mar19(BNA)Minister of Foreign Affairs Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, today attended the Rotary International Conference on behalf of His Royal Highness the Crown Prince, held at the Gulf Hotel, Adliya.

The Rotary 2nd District Conference takes place between 19-22 March and brings together Rotarians from nine different countries. The conference will cover a number of topics, including sustainable development goals, peace within the region, water conservation, and medical care.

During the Foreign Minister's speech, he praised the country's longstanding relationship with Rotary and noted its 50th year of service in the Kingdom. He welcomed the role of Rotary Clubs and volunteers across the Kingdom and highlighted that their efforts support His Majesty the King's commitment to sustainable economic and humanitarian development.

The Foreign Minister gave particular praise to Rotary's remarkable efforts to eradicate polio and noted that there has been a 99 per cent reduction in polio cases worldwide since the launch of their programme.

The Foreign Minister also outlined common goals that Rotary and Bahrain share, including efforts to promote peace and stability in the region and across the world.

Rotary District President Khalil Al-Sharif praised Bahrain's longstanding support to Rotary and noted its role in Rotary's significant growth in the District, which now stands at over 2,300 members and 78 Rotary Clubs.

District Chairperson Redha Faraj also welcomed Bahrain's continued support in its 50th year of service in the Kingdom, and thanked His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa, the Deputy Prime Minister, for the role he played in helping to establish the first Rotary Club in Bahrain 50 years ago.

The District Chairperson also thanked His Royal Highness the Crown Prince for his patronage of the event, and thanked the Foreign Minister for his speech and warm words.
