Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F), a United States-based automaker, is recalling around 58,000 Focus vehicles that were already repaired in an earlier campaign.

The automaker recalled the vehicles initially because certain of them fitted with a 2.0-litre GDI or GDTI engine had to be equipped with the new powertrain control software, recalibrated to detect if the fuel canister purge valve becomes stuck. If the valve is stuck open, an excessive vacuum can deform the fuel tank and cause inaccurate fuel gauge indication or loss of power. Some vehicles did not receive the recalibrated software, leaving the defect unaddressed. The automaker has suggested that the tank should be at least half full until the cars are brought back in a second time for new software. In the latest recall, dealers will install the appropriate software and replace the canister purge valve, fuel tank, and fuel delivery module if necessary.

The latest recall includes the 2012 and 2017 Focus, along with the 2013-2014 Focus ST.
