Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F), a United States-based automaker, has launched its first over-the-air software update, delivering smartphone integration features to vehicles from the 2016 model year

Owners will need to use a Wi-Fi network to benefit from Android Auto for vehicles with Sync 3. Apple CarPlay software can also be downloaded wirelessly, however a dealer visit is required for a USB hub upgrade.

The automaker has designed the system to be completely automated and to need minimal interaction, automatically fetching and installing software revisions as updates become available. Downloads will also continue when the car is turned off after connecting to a Wi-Fi network.
