Footballers reveal a different team strip!

Byline: By ROZ CARR News Correspondent

HEPWORTH United football club have got their kit off.

The hardy players braved the cold and produced a nude calendar in aid of testicular cancer.

Members of the club's first and second teams braved the weather to strip off and reveal all for the cheeky shots, all the while trying to dodge dog-walkers and passing cars.

Defender Will Kilner said: "It was a good laugh and the weather was quite kind to us, considering we were somewhat exposed to the elements."

Hepworth's answer to 'The Full Monty', the pictures use cleverly placed props to protect the players' modesty whilst the team gets changed before the match.

Their top scorer James Earnshaw curls a free kick around an exposed defence, and defender Matthew Sanderson takes a penalty kick.

Player and events coordinator Phil Birkhead said that they want to raise awareness of testicular cancer.

"I know somebody that had it," he explained. "Most young guys don't give it a thought, but it needs to be brought into the open."

Testicular cancer is most frequently found in young men aged between 20 and 24, but if diagnosed early, it responds well to treatment and over nine out of ten patients are cured.

Money raised from sales of the calendar will go to Cancer Research UK.

Copies of the calendar are available from Hepworth Sports & Social Club or by calling Phil Birkhead on 07809 648116.
