Football: Ward fires fans fury.

BRISTOL CITY chairman Scott Davidson faced fans fury yesterday after boss John Ward insisted: "I didn't walk out".

Millionaire Davidson said Ward quit after he appointed the Swede Benny Lennartsson as the club's director of coaching.

But yesterday Ward said he was shocked and stunned at Davidson's decision to replace him after just 18 months in charge.

Speaking from his home in the Midlands, Ward said: "I am extremely disappointed and am taking legal advice."

Ward arrived at work on Monday - after a 2-1 win over Bolton - to find the club had taken on Lennartsson.

He sought talks with Davidson who explained Lennartsson would be in charge of team selection and coaching.

Lennartsson is best known in Scandanavia for his role as technical director with the Swedish national side in the 1994 World Cup.
