Byline: DAVID MADDOCK

FANS have teamed up with a charity headed by Falklands veteran Simon Weston in a bid to take over Tranmere Rovers.

The charity, Weston Spirit, is based on the Wirral and gets generous help from Hollywood film star Paul Newman.

And many would suggest that it would take Butch Cassidy with all guns blazing to save the Second Division club.

The charity's chief executive Ben Harrison said: "Prenton Park is rarely used outside match days. Our vision is to create the country's best community football club, bringing in as many people for community activities as for football."
