Football: Owls swoop for keeper Carson.

LIVERPOOL have allowed keeper Scott Carson to join Sheffield Wednesday on loan until the end of the season.

The 20-year-old has made only four appearances this season - all in cup competitions - and has been allowed to move to gain more first team experience.

Carson arrived at Anfield from Leeds in a pounds 750,000 deal last January. After making his debut in a 1-0 defeat at Newcastle last March, he made three consecutive appearances in April, including the home leg of the Champions League quarterfinal against Juventus.

But after appearing in the final Premiership match of last season against Aston Villa, his appearances this season have been in Champions League qualifiers, the Carling Cup and the FA Cup.

Wednesday are down to one fit goalkeeper on their books following an injury to first choice David Lucas.

The Reds were reluctant to allow Carson out on-loan while they remained in the Champions League, but with Jerzy Dudek providing cover for Pepe Reina they are happy to see the youngster gain experience.
