Football: FENLON HAS HYNES SIGHT.

Byline: By GARRY DOYLE

DERRY CITY boss Pat Fenlon is full of beans about new signing Peter Hynes.

Fenlon snapped the 23-year-old striker up on a free transfer on Wednesday from Newry City - three years after his original attempt to sign him.

Fenlon said: "Our current scout, Dave Henderson, sent Peter to Aston Villa five years ago and when the player returned, I wanted to sign him for Shelbourne.

"But with Jason Byrne, Glen Crowe and Gary O'Neill all involved at Tolka Park, he probably felt he wouldn't get a game.

"And since I arrived in Derry, I've always made it clear that Derry required a physical presence in the front line and I've been watching Peter's progress over the past few months.

"I've watched him three times in the last few weeks and he's done well for Newry.

"He's not fit enough for my liking at the moment, but he has got potential, ability, speed and aggression.

"He's very comfortable holding the ball up and with Gary Beckett out of action at the moment, it's something we're certainly missing at the moment."

And Fenlon will make a decision on Swedish goalkeeper Ola Tidman next week, and will play him in today's pre-sea-son friendly against Coleraine.
