Football: world cup ROUND-UP - Pawel Poleaxed; THE 2006 WORLD CUP.

POLAND coach PAWEL JANAS hasresigned after a disappointing World Cup.

Group A defeats against Ecuador and Germany ensured Poland were the first team to exit the tournament.

"Janas will not be the coach any more," said Ryszard Czarnecki, head of the Polish Football Association's (PZPN) international division.

Janas had been due to meet the PZPN on July 14 to discuss his future, but he has opted to resign rather than wait for an official decision.

Media and fans had been calling for Janas' head since Poland's World Cup exit.
