Football: Wes: We want more trophies.

WES Brown has backed Sir Alex Ferguson's claim that the current Manchester United squad can only class themselves as great when they become serial trophy winners.

Ferguson has already stated his belief that his present group of Red Devils is better than any squad he has had throughout his 21 illustrious years at Old Trafford.

But the Scot has also warned it is what they win, rather than how good they look, which will be the true test of their ability.

After the surprise loss at Bolton last weekend, the pressure is on United to get a win over Fulham on Monday to reestablish their championship credentials.

"This is a big season for us," said Brown. "We have a squad with great ability but you can only call it a great squad when you win trophies.

"Things have been going well.

We are playing good football, we are defending well, not letting in many goals and, attacking-wise, we are up with the very best in the country.

"When everyone is fit, it will be very hard for the manager to pick a team and hopefully, at the end of the season, we will be in line to win as many trophies as possible."

Although a two-month unbeaten run came to an end at Bolton, United have made light of a lengthy injury list, of which Brown has been one of the major beneficiaries.

With skipper Gary Neville sidelined since March, the England international has been a virtual ever-present at rightback this season.
