Football: WORLD CUP COUNTDOWN - FOOD FOR THOUGHT AS BRAZIL FLY OUT.

BRAZIL have set off for the World Cup in a plane laden with black beans and manioc flour.

The four times champions took off from Sao Paulo yesterday on a chartered flight.

"Like the rest of the country, I wish good luck to the national team," said President Fernando Henrique Cardoso. "They are taking with them the dreams and the support of 170 million Brazilians."

The Brazilian Football Confederation said the squad were taking 140 kilos of the beans and flour, the local staple diet.
