Football: VILLA-EUROPEEAN CHAMPIONS '82; EVENING MAIL SPECIAL EUROPEAN CUP FINAL.

Byline: by IAN JOHNSON

Aston Villa 1

Bayern Munich 0

SALUTE Aston Villa, the new holders of the European Cup.

Skipper Dennis Mortimer collects the trophy after leading his team to a 1-0 triumph against Bayern Munich in Rotterdam.

Behind him, Villa players Kenny Swain, Allan Evans, Des Bremner and Gary Williams wave to their families and to their fans.

It was the greatest moment in Aston Villa's history, earned from a goal scored by England international Peter Withe after dazzling work by England colleague Tony Morley.

It was a night of high drama and delight for 12,000 well-behaved villa fans when the vital-goal squeezed in off the post.

It was then that Villa became Kings of Europe.
