Football: United's Rich pickings; NEWRY TOWN....0 BALLYMENA UTD ....0.

GENTLE giant Richard McKinney prevented third-placed Newry from sneaking full points at The Marshes and joining Linfield in a share of second place in the Smirnoff Premiership table.

United's 19-year-old goalkeeper was at full stretch to prevent an Alan Hall free kick from entering the net.

Justice was done in the end, although Ballymena boss Alan Fraser felt the Sky Blues did enough to deserve more than one point.

``I thought so. Young McKinney made a great save, but Glenn Hunter might have wrapped it up for us two minutes from time. Unfortunately the ball bobbled on him, as he was about to strike it,'' stated Fraser.

``This Newry team is certainly strong. But, over the 90 minutes I felt Ballymena were the better side. Conditions were difficult. There was a strong wind, and the pitch was heavy."
