Football: This is no boot camp - Jewell.

DERBY manager Paul Jewell has described reports of him instilling a boot camp mentality at the club as "a load of nonsense".

Jewell laid into his players after last weekend's 2-0 defeat at Wigan, calling their performance a "disgrace".

He is yet to preside over a Rams league victory - their only win came over Newcastle in September - and with just 11 games remaining they are running out of time to overhaul the all-time low of 15 points set by Sunderland in the 2005-06 campaign.

Reports suggested Jewell has been putting his players through a punishing training regime this week ahead of tomorrow's game with the Black Cats at Pride Park.

But Jewell said: "Sometimes players don't like to be lambasted and I don't like doing it.

"I'm sure there are lots of managers up and down the country who have had their teams in earlier than my team so it's no boot camp, that's a load of nonsense.

"It's a fantastic training facility and they've worked a little bit harder than usual. There's been one double session but that was because I had a coaching clinic in the afternoon."
