Football: Spencer stars for rampant Robins; CHELTENHAM 3 MACCLESFIELD 0.

CHELTENHAM striker Damian Spencer was the star of the show as he helped the Robins to an emphatic victory in their last home game of the season. The powerful front man bagged a second half double and set up the opener as Brian Horton's visitors were denied the solitary point needed to secure their play-off place.

Macclesfield had the pick of the early chances with Jon Parkin being denied by an excellent Shane Duff challenge on 19 minutes.

The breakthrough came 10 minutes before the break when Spencer's cross was turned past his own keeper by defender David Morley.

Spencer and strike partner Kayode Odejayi had chances to stretch the lead before half time but sent their efforts just wide of the markEarly in the second period, home keeper Shane Higgs produced a fine stop to deny Parkin while at the other end Brian Wilson miscued with the goal at his mercy. But as the half wore on it was John Ward's side that took control. They doubled the lead on 64 minutes when visiting keeper Steve Wilson failed to gather a long ball under pressure from Spencer and the Cheltenham striker lofted the ball into an empty net.

Wilson made up for his earlier mistake with a fine save to deny Spencer moments later but the hot-shot struck again 12 minutes from time after the Maccs defence had failed to clear a corner
