Football: Robson rues snub for hero Shearer.

ASTON VILLA heaped the agony on rattled Newcastle boss Bobby Robson as they crushed the Magpies 4-2 at Villa Park.

New Toon hitman Patrick Kluivert was given the nod ahead of Alan Shearer and was on target but goals from Olof Mellberg, Carlton Cole, Gareth Barry and Juan Pablo Angel sealed the points for Villa.

Manchester City were also rampant in a 4-0 win over Charlton. Nicolas Anelka did most of the damage with a double.

A Leon Osman brace sealed a 2-1 win for Everton against West Brom. Middlesbrough came from behind to beat Crystal Palace 2-1 while Spurs stay unbeaten after Jermain Defoe scored in a 1-0 win over Birmingham.
