Football: Prescot slump as results go Lairdsway; COCA COLA LEAGUE TWO/NON-LEAGUE.
Matlock Town 3
Prescot Cables 1
PRESCOT'S UniBond Premier defeat at Causeway Lane means that they have now gone six games without a win.
Poor defending gifted Matlock a 2-0 lead inside 16 minutes, with goals coming from Gary Webster and the impressive James Lukic.
Adisappointing first 45 minutes was made worse four minutes into the second half when Simon Barraclough converted from the spot.
Prescot pulled a goal back through Ryan Wade on 59 minutes following a decent move. To their credit, Cables never gave up in their quest to pull something back from the match, but the damage had already been done.
PRESCOT CABLES: Hibbert, Cooney, Flood (Whyte 76), McEwan (Moore 37), Bell, Gray, Wade, Taylor, Byers (Smith 37), Price, O'Donnell.
CAMMELL LAIRD once again had a free weekend with their UniBond Division One South clash at basement club Spalding United being called off a day early after heavy rain in South Lincolnshire.
Ironically the referee had declared the pitch playable at the Friday afternoon inspection only for the local council to cancel all football on municipal pitches.
The postponement will come as a great disappointment for buoyant Lairds, unbeaten in their last six games, especially with the news that league leaders Retford lost at home to lowly Brigg Town.
This leaves the Birkenhead title hopefuls just four points adrift of Retford with a game in hand.
