Football: Port boss joy at switch.
KEITH BURGESS last night praised the decision to move this season's OVD Scottish Junior Cup Final from Firhill to Tannadice.
The Tayport boss is delighted at the change of heart from the SJFA, who decided to switch the venue from Maryhill after a groundswell of calls to have the all-Tayside clash against Lochee United on Sunday, May 29 hosted in Dundee.
Burgess said: 'It is a victory for common sense and I'm over the moon the game has been moved to Tannadice.
'It's great news, not just for the players and fans of both clubs but for junior football in general. We can have an atmosphere matching the occasion.
'Last season's final between two Dundee teams was held in Glasgow and it didn't make any sense.
'I'm sure we will have a huge turn-out for the game and for once the television cameras won't have to scan a small part of the ground to find some fans.'
Junior FA secretary Tom Johnston also agrees the authorities have made the right move.
He said: 'We have been considering the venue for the past few days, since we have known the clubs who got through to the final.
'We feel this is the best decision because it means the supporters will not need to travel. We are hoping the Dundee football fans will come out and show everyone that the correct decision has been made
