Football: Pompey set to win race for Kaboul.

VILLA were facing up to the probability that transfer target Younes Kaboul has chosen to join Portsmouth instead of moving to Villa Park, according to reports in France today.

The Tottenham defender has been courted by both clubs and had held talks with Sunderland boss Roy Keane last week, but according to reports, Kaboul will sign a fouryear deal at Pompey in the next few days.

"He wants to go to Portsmouth - he would prefer to go there," said Kaboul's agent, Rudy Raba.

"Sunderland wanted to know within 24 hours but, while he is thankful to Roy Keane for his interest, the boy has decided he does not want to go there," Another player who was also interesting Martin O'Neill, Steed Malbranque, is also set to finally seal a fouryear deal with Sunderland.

Stoke are hoping to complete a deal for goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen.

The 32-year-old former Villa No.1 has been on trial with the Potters.

He is available on a free transfer after being released by Villa at the end of last season.
