Football: Paolo puts Kev in even worse spot; MAN CITY 1 CHARLTON 1.

PAOLO DI CANIO struck with six minutes to go to rescue a point for Charlton and send City into despair.

A goal six minutes before the break from the resurgent Robbie Fowler looked to have ended City's run of 12 games without a win.

But after Joey Barton had handled a controversial Charlton free-kick, David Seaman saved the ex-Celtic star's penalty only for the Italian to tap home the rebound.

Nicolas Anelka looked lively early on but Charlton should have gone in front on virtually their first attack when Jason Euell and Jonatan Johansson combined to set up di Canio in space 10 yards out but he dragged his shot wide.

Euell went close before Charlton were denied what looked a certain penalty when Richard Dunne appeared to haul Johansson back as the Finn tried to latch on to a long ball.

But after finding themselves under pressure, City rallied to take the lead. Anelka did all the hard work, evading Euell, Hermann Hreidarsson and Mark Fish as his mazy dribble took him into the area.

Eventually, heraninto Chris Perry but the loose ball looped up and Fowler volleyed it into the net.

Scott Parker should have equalised but Seaman, who appeared to have moved too far from his post, produced an excellent low save.
